SUNDAY 26TH MAY 2019
DEVON’S MOST SOUTHERLY VILLAGE FAIR
East Prawle, Devon’s most southerly village, is the place to be on Sunday 26th May for Prawle Fair –where you can really get away from it all. The Village Green goes back in time hosting traditional fair rides, delicious refreshments, stalls and live music. At 2pm the fair kicks off with the traditional“Raising of the Glove” ceremony which according to legend signifies free trade and clemency from prosecution during the fair.
The Swing boats are always popular together with a Coconut Shie, Bucking Bronco and a Test your Strength machine! For children there is a Fancy Dress parade and Maypole dancing plus a slippery pole to tackle - sticky candy floss fingers may help you stay on longer! If you fancy chucking a wet sponge at our local District Councillor in the stocks I’m sure he’ll be more than happy to cheer youon in return for a small donation. If you’re after a bargain the Bric a Brac stall may have something to tempt you or you can enter one of the fun competitions to see how your knobbly knees or‘andsome ankles measure up to the opposition!
There are refreshments to tempt you too - try a BBQ lunch with a Pimms followed up by a delicious Devon cream tea from the Tea Tent. Additional options are also available from the Piglet Cafe and the Pigs Nose Inn.
The annual fair is a huge community effort with most of the villagers involved in some way. It raises funds to support the Community Hall and local good causes such as First Responders.
Throughout the day there will be live music to get you dancing – something the villagers of East Prawle are very fond of doing! In the evening the famous Pigs Nose Inn will be hosting the Aftershow party.
So why not come along and join us for an afternoon of family fun in one of the most beautiful villages in Devon – entrance to the Fair is free with parking just £2 a car!
